Sunday 5th May 2002 vs Archway Graces C.C.

Wash on a Roll!

Washington C.C. 168 for 7 (declared)
Archway Graces C.C. 90 all out

Washington romped to victory in this local derby fixture on Sunday. Having piled up 168 they knocked over their opponents for just 90 to secure victory by the impressive margin of 78 runs.

Delighted skipper Dave Walker beamed: ‘that's two wins out of two so far this season: the boys done good!'

Having lost the toss and been asked to bat first, Walker must have been pleased at how his batsmen responded. Paul Irons stroked an aggressive 33 and burly keeper Al Moffatt smashed a typically forthright 44. Fast bowling ace Richard Minion chipped in with 23, and the skipper held it altogether, accumulating a patient 29 not out.

The declaration came at tea, and the crumbs had hardly been dusted from the table before Archway crumbled. Young opening bowler Nick Tidey continued his sensational start to the season, tearing out the top four Archway batsmen to finish with 4-23.

And where he left off, Minion picked up, hurrying out the tail with 3-15 as the visitors were bowled out for 90.

It all left Archway's afternoon in ruins, but Washington are on an early season roll.
