May/June Update
After seven completed games this season, the Wash have won four and lost three. The three losses came in consecutive weeks - tough defeats to Valley End, London Theatres and Follies Farm. However, three great wins in a row has righted the good ship Washington, and they have been big wins too. Two chases of over 200 runs against Hollybush and Epping have seen fantastic resilience and batting, whilst the victory over Crossbats was a gutsy performance in a foreign and artificial clime. July is looking full of great fixtures, so get your name down early to avoid disappointment! And another remind: subs are due, still incredibly cheap at £40. Please contact Kiwi to make the payment.

April 2018 Update:
After a great run of training sessions over the winter, it's been a frustrating start to the season with both opening games rained off - firstly against Crouch End Calthorpe and yesterday against Strongroom. Hoping for better weather soon - get your names down when the email comes out for this weekend's game.
Subs are now due, still incredibly cheap at £40. Please contact Kiwi to make the payment.

CLUBMAN VOTES:
The Clubman Award is presented at the Club Dinner on 3rd February. It is recognition of outstanding contribution to the Washington CC on and/or off the field, and can be for recent service or over the long term. No-one is allowed to win Clubman more than once - this is to encourage all members to contribute to the life of the club. Past winners include: Aff, Cragoe, Hilly, Guru, Smooth, Glucky, Russ, Kiwi, Klossy, Ash, Tobes, Fogs, Stu, Gary Evans & myself. I've received a few votes already but would like to lock down the nominee by MONDAY 15TH LATEST. Remember ANYONE can win it except past winners. As they say in Chicago: vote early, vote often!

Mid-Season Update:
We’re having a very good season so far with 5 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw (+ 1 abandoned). We have also welcomed a new generation of players into the side and a number of caps have been earned already. There are still 7 more games to play and the Club day so still plenty of cricket to play and it’s not too late to make an impact for the Wash.
Tour to Menorca:
Most of you will have seen the Tour details and we already have considerable commitments, but in my view the more the merrier: for one thing we’re playing two games in the weekend of 28/29 October and in my experience touring can take its toll on players. So if you are considering the, flights are still cheap and the hotel is reasonable. There’s a number of us travelling out from Gatwick at 6.35am on 26/10 and returning 13.25pm on Monday 30/10. The main airline is Easyjet but I believe Monarch fly as well. The hotel is Catalonia Mirador des Port in Mahon. If you want to know more ask Peter Kloss or myself. Peter's number is 07885 760 658 and mine is 07855 363 916. Many thanks to Peter for setting up what is shaping up as an epic tour!

The season is rapidly drawing to a close. We have a full team for Vagabonds this Sunday with some selection and logistical issues to be resolved.
On Saturday 10th we play at Aldenham, and I really want a big effort so that we can earn a win or at least a draw at their fortress near Watford.
Then on Sunday 18th is Club Day: mate against mate, state against state (as Ash would call it). This is a great opportunity to have a bit of fun, and score a few points. Family and friends are welcome. Venue to be confirmed - most likely Wray Crescent.
It has been a good season so far - let's finish it strongly!

Ruan Coetzer
Today we received the terrible news that Ruan Coetzer has died. Ruan played six games for the Wash in 2011 and 2012. Whilst his time with us was short, he made a strong impression on everyone who met him. He tall, very smart and stylish, a South African with a hilarious and sometimes cutting wit and just great to have around, a larger than life figure.
As a player, he was an exceptionally fast and accurate bowler, in reality too good for most teams we played against. Consequently he did not get to bowl his full quota in the games he played for the Wash - however Ruan was quite happy to take up the gloves when not required to bowl, and was very effective as a wicket keeper as well.
Ruan, you were not with us for long. But we acknowledge you and remember you, and we wish you well on your journey.

In the past month we have had two excellent official social events - the Wine Tasting at the Washington hostd by Mike and the Lawn Bowls at Finsbury Square, both events organised by our brilliant Social Secretary Stu Marsh - thanks very much!
After a difficult few weeks in trying to get teams out, it seems the Washington is ready to play again with interest picking up dramatically. On Sunday we were soundly beaten by the London Tigers after dominating the first 20 overs. Coming up we have a return match from the Hollybush this week, one which is sure to be exciting following our one-wicket victory in June. And the following week we travel to our old friends at Barnes Common, with the exciting Vishwa to follow that.
In August we will be trying to add commitments to our tour to Thailand 12-18 February 2017. At present we have 10 commitments with another 9 maybes (as at today), and surely more to come out of the woodwork. We will be asking for a commitment fee at the end of August (this will go towards transport within Chiang Mai and accommodation pre-bookings), and once the quorum is reached we can start booking the flights which are very cheap as at today. Dave Walker will be at the Washington 9th August to tell us more about Chiang Mai so I'd urge anyone who is interested to come along.

Farewell to Ash and Katie:
Ash, on behalf of the Washington CC and as a mate we wish you and Katie all the very best on the next stage of your lives. We're really sad to see you go. Your contribution to the club has been enormous - firstly as an enthusiastic and committed player who showed flashes of brilliance - 4 wickets for 6 runs and 70 runs being the highlights, plus some smashing tour innings. As Social Secretary you performed a vital role with ease. And your work as Tour Manager on the last 3 tours has been hugely appreciated. There are many other things that you have done for the Wash behind the scenes, and you have fought to keep the club remembering and respecting the traditions of those who have gone before us.
It is pleasing to know that you regard your 93 games for the Wash in normal season play as being a sign of unfinished business. We look forward to seeing you again so that you can complete your century of games for the Wash.
So, from all of us - Bon Voyage! And we look forward to seeing you again, over there or over here, or somewhere in between!

Season starts with a win!
We're off and running. The Washington comprehensively beat Old Parktonians chasing down 142 with overs to spare and only 2 wickets down. Andrew Walsh took 4 wickets while Aftab Akram and Tom Harper brought home the victory with a solid century partnership. There was a running commentary on the Facebook page which you can view with photos. A full report will appear in the fixtures section very soon.
I'm very excited about the coming season. Our pre-season training was excellent, and the DICKS programme is yielding results in increased focus and better techniques. I urge everyone to think about their personal goals and how to achieve them. Speak with Mike, Aff, Shawn, or any of the senior players about how to improve your games - we are all here to help each other.
The fixtures are now published on this website. I encourage you to think about which games you definitely want to play and let the match managers know a couple of weeks in advance to avoid disappointment.

Upcoming events: Club dinner 31/01/15 (TBC); Nets 08/02/15; AGM 03/03/15.
Happy New Year Washingtonians! Coming up we are planning the Club dinner for Saturday 31/01/15 (slight proviso on this as we've yet to confirm the venue). Following that pre-season nets start at Lords on Feb 8th, and the AGM will be on March 3rd. Full details to follow.
I can report that Shawn has the fixtures nearly finalised for the season ahead. Also, please get your responses to Mike & Shawn regarding the DICKS (Development In Cricket Knowledge Specialists) program. From what I've seen so far this is going to be hugely beneficial to individual players and the club as a whole. At the same time we also can call on Aff at Lords for individual training sessions, and I know a few players are already taking advantage of the opportunity.
We had a very good season last year - winning more games than we lost, and players on a many occasions showed real character and courage. Moreover we enjoyed our cricket.
I am very grateful to the committee and others who have worked very hard behind the scenes to keep the club running and vibrant.
Looking forward to smashing some leather!

Well the season is in full swing now and the headlines have come thick and fast recently:
Wash vs. Wash
On 15th May Washington CC headed to another Washington. As many of you know Wash landlord Terry Tidey's great, great, great grandfather built the Washington pub in 1865 and named it after his place of birth, the village of Washington in West Sussex.
The game on the 15th was therefore a Wash vs. Wash encounter, but of a different type than that seen on Club Day. It was a closely fought encounter, and a great game by all accounts, and the Sussex Washington ran out winners by 2 wickets. Plans are already afoot for a return match next season at North Middlesex.
Many thanks to Club Vice Captain, Toby Mariner for organising the historic game.
Finally a Victory!
On 22nd May the team were at Follies Farm, south of Guildford, always a popular fixture. After a sequence of 6 losses the club badly needed a win. And it came in emphatic style, with the Wash bowling Follies all out for 86. Reigning Bowler of the Season Clinton Dugmore turned in a blistering pace performance to take 5 for 17, and the whole team were highly accomplished in the field; not a dropped catch or misfield in evidence. The start to the game was extraordinary - after 15 balls the Follies score stood at 3 runs for 4 wickets!
The Wash batsmen completed the victory with just 3 wickets down. Well done lads!
So thankfully the losing sreak is over - from here the games come thick and fast into June so get your name down for Mayfield and St John Fisher this coming weekend.
Family Matters
Some more good news came on 10th May with the birth of Jessica May Fogarty, daughter of Wash Clubman and Treasurer Lee Fogarty and his wife Lucille. Congratulations to the the whole family from everyone at the club.
Bowling Night
Thanks to Social Sec Ash Cruickshank for organising the successful ten pin bowling social night last Saturday.

This should be a great social occasion winding our way through the pubs of Belsize and Hamstead. Let's go pound some leather!

Tuesday 31st August 2010
Weekend matches are continuing right up to the end of September but I wanted to give you an advance heads up of this year's Club Day on Sunday 19th September.
Club Day is where two teams of Washington players play a friendly match with a few quirky rules thrown in. It's an opportunity to bat or bowl against the people you've been playing alongside all season, and for a fun club social event. Please put the 19th September date in your diary - it will probably be a 1.30pm start at our home ground at North Middlesex in Crouch End, N8.
We will be presenting any club caps which are due, and also we expect that the new club sweaters will be available on the day for those who pre-ordered them.
Last year we had a buffet meal after the game, laid on by North Midds. Those who were there will remember it wasn't the best, so this year we are proposing to go for a meal at a nearby Chinese restaurant. Details to be arranged but I hope as many of you, plus partners, will be able to stay on in the evening for the meal and a couple of drinks.
Looking forward to seeing you there! We will ask for numbers closer to the date itself.

Chris and Lynsey Farewell - Regents Park and the Albany
When: Saturday 1st May
Where: Regent's Park - Marylebone Green area (see marked area on map)
Time: from 2pm
Bring along anything/anyone. We'll have a few rugs, outdoor games and some picnic nibbles and drinks but make sure you bring your favourites.
We're hoping the weather will be good enough for the whole afternoon, we're then hoping to retire to the The Albany pub on Great Portland Street (just opp the tube) for the remaining of serving time and our fond farewells...
http://www.thealbanyw1w.co.uk/index.html
It's open til late and serves food until 10pm so should fit the bill.
Should the weather turn out not so good, we'll be heading to The Albany for about 6pm....let's hope the sun keeps shining!!
The Jubilee line is completely closed, as is the Met line coming to Baker Street/Great Portland Street but the Hammersmith and City and Circle line is running so you can still get to those stations fine. The Bakerloo (Baker Street/Regents Park) is also running so hopefully it won't be too much of an issue to get this way. The Victoria line is also running fine - for Warren Street station.
Chris will have their mobiles on if you can't find them in the park...

Chesters v Barclays Capital CC, Regents Park, 31 July 06.
On a lovely evening Chesters went into their final game of the 20/20 Monday night cricket league knowing that qualification was impossible due to earlier defeats in the tournament. However that did not diminish their will to win, and Chesters ended their campaign on a victorious note.
Skipper Aff Naseem won the toss and sent Barclays into bat on a hard pitch. Barclay’s responded well, however, and after 4 overs the score was 56-0. It was time for an Aussie moment, and Justin Gurney provided it.
As soon as he got the ball in his hand, the magic started to happen: Gurney grabbed 2-16, Pete Demetri a superb 3-19, and George Hope 1-10, as Chesters turned round their poor start. And with a final economical spell from Peter Kloss (1-9), backed up be some decent fielding, it left Chesters facing a get-able 125 for victory.
Chesters suffered an immediate set-back when Hope was dubiously adjudged lbw to the third ball of the innings, but the Naseem and Demetri steadied the ship. Man-of-the-match Demetri was in awesome form, and struck 33 off 24 balls before he was unfortunately run out. A similar fate befell Steven Brown, but only after he had scored an impressive 26 off 13 balls. Gurney was next in, and contributed a fluent 17; at the other end Aff Naseem was playing patiently, holding everything together, and he was still at the crease, unbeaten on 29, when Chesters crossed the line with two overs to spare.
Asked for his reaction after the game, the skipper said simply ‘It was a great effort by everyone’.
Man of the match - Pete Demetri for great bowling and a good batting display.

Chester v Black Stumps @ Regents Park on 19 June 2006
Chesters fell just eight runs short in this tight Monday night encounter with the mighty Black Stumps. Skipper Paul Irons won the toss, and invited the Stumps to bat. Some good tight bowling by Max Murrain and Steven Brown pinned back the Stumps’ early charge and the skipper himself picked up two crucial wickets for just 15 runs in the middle of the innings. However, Chesters could not stop a smashing 50 off 21 balls by Kieran O’Donnel and the Black stumps ended with 141-5 off their 20 overs.
Chesters, started slowly and the run rate climbed to 9 an over. Wickets fell regularly. Pete Demitri (7) and Paul Knight (24) were followed at crucial stages by Paul Irons (10), John Roche (4), and Bradley Hitchcock (1). The one man to really get to grips with the Black Stumps was Steve Brown who lashed an imperious 51 off 30 balls. He received admirable late-order support from Peter Kloss (11 off 6 balls - includng one huge six down to cow corner) but ultimately the target was just beyond Chesters who finished on 133-5.
Chesters - Paul Irons*, John Roche+, Brad Hitchy, Paul Knight, Max Murrain,
Pete Demitri, Peter Kloss, Steve Brown.

Monday evening, 12th June 2006.
Chesters 99-3 beat Liquorice Allsorts 98 all out by 5 wickets.
On a very hot evening, Paul Irons won the toss and decided field first, restricting the Allsorts to 98 all out. This was a great effort with some great ground fielding by everyone. Great catches taken by John Roche and Aff Naseem, who took the catch of the match.
There was also some great bowling: Richard Jones bowled 4 overs and returned 2-17, Steve Brown slung down three overs (2-7) and Peter Kloss bowled four overs to secure figures of 2-30. The Allsorts were gobbled up for 98.
The chase was on Aff got Chesters off to a great start with 17
off 13 balls, and Lee Fogarty chipped in with 9. However, the Chesters’ victory was down to Steven Brown who saw the team home with a brilliant knock off 42 off 33 balls.
In the end it was a comfortable victory and Chesters got their season off to the best possible start.

The Washington CC is sad to announce the passing of one of its founder members, West Indian Ziggy Holder. He died in Padstow, a few days ago, aged 70. Having started the club in the late 1960's, he kept it going until the early 1980's, when a new generation of players, including Dave Walker, Alan Moffat and myself, took over the running of the club. We all owe Ziggy a debt of gratitude for starting it all and mourn his passing.
Though we didn't see much of Ziggy for London games, he and Derek Woods were regular supporters during our tours to Cornwall. We extend our sincerest condolences to Derek and any of Ziggy's family members

Can you ever forgive me?
I do hope so as I have been a little busy recently. As most of you know by now I became a father on 19th February.

So excuses over we are up and running once more. I shall endeavour to keep things upto date and try to add new features whenever possible. If you have any ideas then I am very much open to them.
Keep smiling and tell me how beautiful my baby is :))
