Wash Unable to find Batting Stay-power

Hetairoi C.C. 199 all out (38.1 overs)
Washington C.C. 105 all out (32.1 overs)

Peter Kloss reporting.

On this lovely summer's day in Oxford the game started well for Wash with Hetaroi 45 for 4 after 10 overs. Clinton Dugmore (3-31) delivered most of this early damage. However a 91 run partnership then swung the game in the host's direction. Nick Kripps (2-44) finally grabbed the initiative, dismissing both the run scorers. In between Arun Prasad (1-40) bowled a really nice tidy spell.

Luke Mitchell returned and mopped up the tail to return excellent figures (3-14). There were 2 catches for Ash Cruickshank, curiously both taken before he donned the gloves from Andrew Walsh.

When Wash batted a few guys got going but then couldn't build a bigger innings, and no big partnerships developed. In the second half of the innings the Hetaroi skipper showed his experience, bringing on the slower bowlers with a close field, being patient and waiting for the Wash batsmen to make mistakes. Several duly obliged seeing run-scoring opportunities despite there being too many to realistically get.

Wash were all out for 105 with 10 of the final 20 overs remaining.

The team headed to the historic Turf Tavern with mixed emotions. It had been a great day out in the sunshine playing on a pristine ground, but Wash didn't quite feel they had done themselves justice in the way they had capitulated with the bat.

Man of the Match: Clinton Dugmore for an excellent early spell of bowling which put Wash on the front foot early on

Packing the Kit: Andrew Speck, who put his name down for the team, but then didn't turn up because he thought the match was on Sunday rather than Saturday...
