Saturday 26th July 2014 vs Aldenham C.C.

Defeat snatched from the jaws of a draw

Aldenham C.C. 204/8
Washington C.C. 128 all out

Note from Chairman: As I was struggling for words to describe the loss we suffered at the hands of Aldenham, I think they put is as well as anyone could have, so here is the match report from Aldenham's point of view:

Aldenham, shorn of their regular skipper for time management reasons, took on regular friends Washington at the home of cricket in perfect cricket weather.
Stand in skip Char won the toss and elected to bat, which meant conversations soon turned excitingly to the wedding celebrations of Mr Barot coming up the following day. Aldenham started solidly enough with the Chairman and the Pirate seeing out the dangerous opening partnership of Mitchell and Murrain before the Colonel made his way to the crease and built a decent partnership with the now southpaw Frostie. The A's eventually crawled past the 200 mark thanks to some late hitting by the strong tail.
Aldenham then set out to bowl out Washington, Tim Hale found himself particularly aggrieved after being hauled off by Char the skipper despite a bright start. The Washington openers dug in and made it to drinks only one down, however the score was not progressing quickly and it looked like a draw was likely on the cards with 9 wickets and 150 runs needed to force the result.
However, Basil made the breakthrough and the door opened a crack for Aldenham to power their way through, with Danny Morgan managing to return for four wickets in his second spell to bring Aldenham in for the win.
A great game with a friendly opposition that we are always happy to host.
