Washington Cricket Club - 40th Anniversary Year

The Wash played on Sunday at the Lyttelton Playing Fields in East Finchley for the first time in about 20 years. The location was significant as in the 90s this used to be the club's home ground; many matches were played there, and many feats achieved! Not least was Glucky's highest ever score - 88 not out.

 

Unfortunately returning to pastures old was not successful for the club on this day, and probably the least said about the stats the better. Against fellow social, but skilled side Palm Tree CC, the oppo scored a reasonable total with a few wickets down, and the Wash then scored not very many with all wickets down.

The pitch was difficult, yes, slow, with some quite unpredictable bounce, but this could not explain Washington's inability to get in, build an innings and score a few runs, nor the cavern between the scores of the 2 sides.

The score would have been even lower had Palm Tree not gifted several wides - in fact only 15 runs were scored from the bat in Wash's innings.

 

Taking the positives from the game (!!), highlights there were good bowling from Luke Mitchell, Max Murrain and Toby Mariner, 2 good outfield catches by Mylo Portas, and Toby running out their no. 3 for 99 with a direct hit!
