A Great Win!

Highgate C.C. 267 for 3 declared
Washington C.C. 270 for 6

Ash Cruickshank reporting.

We're 2 for 2 for the season after a great win against Highgate on Sunday.

Skipper Mariner won the toss and put Highgate in to bat and the home side quickly settled down to their work with a good initial partnership despite tight bowling by Mariner and Crook with Crook very unlucky not to have an early LBW.  However the intoduction of Kloss finally broke the partnership only to see the no.3 amass a quickfire century and putting the boys on their heels.  The only chance was after the 100 was up when a catch was dropped (and found it's way over the boundary...the less said about the circumstances the better) although he then retired (perhaps mindful of his average) but despite some late wickets, the damage was done.

After the usual amazing tea of Thai food that Highgate always puts on, the Wash set about chasing 267 with calculations suggesting we'd have 44 overs to do so.  Clark was lucky early when one clattered his stumps but the bails stood staunch but his luck didn't last being bowled shortly after.  Turner and White set about accumulating the runs and kept the score ticking over at 5 an over providing a glimmer of hope while we had wickets in hand.

Turner got has 50 but was out soon after at which point Shyam strode to the crease and immediately commenced punishing any ball that wasn't up to scratch while White continued his usual stroke play also getting to 50 before being dismissed.  Hlll added to the total but was caught just as he was hitting his straps.

Fogs came out and showed a nice blend of solid defence and punishing shots while Shyam kept pushing the runs and putting pressure on the field until he was just caught short and run out for an excellent 47 at which point the Wash only needed about 20 with 6 overs to go.

Ash didn't trouble the scorer but Fogs had it under control as he took the team across the line for a win that only hours earlier looked improbable.

An outstanding effort with the bat to bring about a win that will be talked about for some time.

Man of the Match - Despite a number of great batting performances, I'll nominate Shyam with his quick fire 47 that put the Wash in the drivers seat

Packing the kit - he knows who he is and why
