Washington appeared to be heading for victory in this game with Aff Naseem, on 44, playing a great innings and the team scoring at over 8 an over - on target to overhaul Cassowaries' 219. However Naseem was then really unfortunate to get a beamer ball at head height. He tried to hook it away but had lost sight of it slightly in the background. Incredibly the ball found its way between the peak and the grill of his helmet. It broke Aff's nose and there was much blood, necessitating time in hospital and a subsequent operation. Of course Naseem could take no futher part in the game and the Wash went on to fall just 13 runs short. Fortunately there was no permanent damage to Aff's nose. Erasmus Lauder had a great game on debut, picking up 3 wickets and scoring 25. There were also runs for Chris Davis and Nick Bunney in the chase.
