Shawn Hill reporting. The Wash match on Sunday ended up being a close fought affair with the Hollybush in a game that stood at the brink of disaster for the Wash at one stage. The Hollybush batted first putting on 203 runs in their innings with good bowling spells from Stevie Brown, Dave Monger and Toby Mariner. Steve Brown took 3 wickets in his 2 overs that included 9 no balls! The Wash batting lineup was pretty strong and I felt that we would chase down that total with relative ease. How wrong I was! Dave Gluckman went win to bat at 36 for 5 and was soon joined by the skipper with the total on 40 for 6! There sure was a mountain to climb if the Wash were to pull this one off as the scoring rate was climbing fast. Not wanting to lose any wickets before the drinks break Gluckie and Hill set about steadying the ship and drinks came without the loss of further wickets. The skipper unfortunately ran the resolute Gluckie out for a well played 13 but by that stage the pair had put on close to 85 runs (I don't have the scorebook but it was around that) and the Wash were launching an assault on the Bush bowling. If my memory serves me correctly almost 100 runs needed to be scored in the last 10 overs. The skipper was bowled for 85 with 5 overs to go with just under 50 runs still required. The last 2 wickets fell pretty quickly after that and the Wash were all out, losing by circa 30 runs.
