Peter Kloss Reporting

Washington cricket club's seven match winning streak came to an end last Sunday in the Hampshire countryside. Last wicket pairing Justin Gurney (32*) and Terry Tidey (4*) played out the final 7 overs of the game to earn a draw, whilst also never quite giving up hope of making the runs required to win. In the end Washington fell 17 short.

However at 80 for 4 with 14 overs remaining it had seemed that Washington would make the runs. David Gluckman (16) and Shawn Hill (16) were going along nicely and all seemed in control. But in the face of excellent bowling from Vagabond's Harding and Massey, Washington suffered a major collapse. They lost 5 wickets for only 18 runs and at the end had to play something of a rear guard action to hold onto the draw, the final partnership remaining unbroken on 30.

Earlier Washington had bowled well to restrict Vagabonds to 144 from 40 overs. The wickets were shared with two each for Nick Tidey, Terry Tidey and Shawn Hill, and one for Justin Gurney.

Other significant contributions with the bat for Washington came from Pete Demitri (22) and Lee Fogarty (15).

Skipper Justin said after the game “I guess all good things have to come to an end. It's a shame we couldn't convert this into another victory, but the batsmen just don't seem able to build big partnerships. We're still having a great season though and really enjoying our cricket”

Man of the match: Justin Gurney, for a captain's innings with the bat and a wicket with the ball

Packing the kit: No strong candidates this time

Washington: Steve Brown, Pete Demitri (+), Lee Fogarty, Matthew Holt, David Gluckman, Shawn Hill, Nick Tidey, Justin Gurney (c), Gareth Gilmer, Max Murrain, Terry Tidey
