Peter Kloss Reporting

An accomplished all round team performance from Washington saw them win again on Sunday against arch rivals Hollybush. Two-nil down in matches against this Harpenden side, Washington had an important point to make. Justin Gurney's team duly delivered in a hard fought and good humoured game, much to the skipper's delight. The result was close, the winners only getting home with 3 wickets to spare.

The pitch gave considerable assistance to the bowlers throughout, reflected in the low scores. Shawn Hill (4 wickets) and Marty Bock (3) were the pick for the Washington. Both bowled accurately with swing and seam movement on this very hot and humid day. In addition the occasional ball rose off a length causing the batsmen discomfort. Hill dug the odd ball in short also to add to the batsmen's considerable difficulties.

When Washington batted, Hollybush pace man Ben Jooste bowled equally well, grabbing 4 wickets. But crucially a gritty third wicket partnership of no more than 40 between Aff Nasseem (16) and Tony Harris (19) frustrated the fielding team. Both played really well under the circumstances, getting their heads down and working hard for every run they ground out. In the context of this low scoring game this partnership was critical to Washington's victory. Jooste just could not break through.

Justin said after the game “Fantastic! It's great to get back towards level terms against these guys. We thoroughly deserved our victory today and we're on an excellent run – 7 victories in a row now”.

Man of the match: Shawn Hill, for 4 wickets and a superb catch

Packing the kit: Paul Irons, for a golden duck (again)

Washington: Justin Gurney, Tony Harris, Pete Demitri, Paul Irons, Aff Nasseem, Shawn Hill, John Roche (+),  Richard Jones, Gareth Gilmer, Marty Bock, Steve Brown
