Saturday 15th May 2004 vs Luton Nomads C.C.

Wash lose unbeaten record

Washington C.C. 105
Luton Nomads C.C. 106-4

Washington’s unbeaten start to the season came to an emphatic end in Luton Saturday, where a strong Nomads team secured an efficient 6-wicket victory.

Washington’s afternoon began brightly enough, with openers Tony Harris (16) and Brad Hitchcock (24) adding 40 untroubled runs for the first wicket:  their departure, however, sparked a collapse of massive proportions.  Of the remaining batsmen, only skipper Paul Irons (12) and the redoubtable Pete Grzonka (13) managed double figures as Wash were bundled out for 105.

It wasn’t enough.  Despite wickets for Chris Davis (1-29) and Neil Martin (1-23), and two run outs engineered by The Kiwi, there was little the Wash could do stem the flow of runs, and the home team reached their target  in just 24 overs.
