Saturday 10th May 2003 vs Priory Park C.C.

Wash so close

Washington C.C. 202-7 dec. (30 overs)
Priory Park C.C. 154-9

Wash came oh so close to victory against Priory Park, but had to settle for what skipper David Gluckman described as a 'winning draw' instead.

The seemingly endless supply of super-talented Aussies provided Wash with a new opening pair for this match. They put on 54 in just 6 overs; Chris Doyle went on to a stylish and composed 59, while Anastasiou caned a blistering 34, and, for the record, struck his first ball for the Wash for 6!

Washington's batters were in fine form, and there were runs too for Dennis Edwards (31), Lee Foggarty (24), David Gluckman (21 not out) and Mick Kennedy (14).

Wash declared at 200 off just 30 overs, and the bowlers almost took them to victory. Neil Martin (3-33) removed both openers and Chris Harvey, yet another new Australian, bowled with plenty of zip as he picked up debut figures of 3-37 off eleven overs.

Eric Stougthon wheeled away to clam 2-28 and there was a wicket too for the tireless Kennedy (1-47), as Wash ran into unexpected lower order resistance form Sinclair (28) and Joshi (39 not).

Priory finished the game 9 wickets down, and 49 runs shy of their target. So, a winning draw from a Wash side that contained no fewer than six Western Australians. Is this some kind of take-over?'
