Saturday 3rd August 2002 vs Arkley C.C.

Wash Crash

Arkley C.C. Arkley 141 -7
Washington C.C. Wash 125 all out

Washington slumped to a surprise defeat on Saturday against Arkley. Having won the toss and invited their hosts to bat, Washington kept Arkley to 141-7 in 47 overs. Terry Tidey (1-18)bowled 11 excellent overs and Gary Malcolm picked up 4-37, including two stumpings by impressive keeper Johnny Roche.

Despite the loss of two quick wickets, Washington appeared to be cruising to victory as Mark Wittet (30) and Brian White (57) took control of the Arkley attack.

However, White’s dismissal was the trigger for a collapse of epic proportions: Washington lost their last 5 wickets for a scarcely credible 1 run, as Arkley swept to a victory none the less welcome for being so unexpected.
