Sunday 28th April 2002 vs Ludlow C.C.

Victory warms Wash

Ludlow C.C. 99 for 8 (35 overs)
Washington C.C. 102 for 6 (29 overs)

Washington skipper Dave Walker shook his head in disbelief on Sunday as he relived an unexpected Washington victory in their opening game of the season. ‘It's not so much that we won that suprises me', he said, ‘just the fact that we managed to play at all!'

Yes, the cricket season is back, and Washington played out a typical, early season, shower-dodging contest against Ludlow CC.

Ludlow batted first, and in the face of some tight Washington bowling, amassed 99 for 8 in their 35 overs. The best of the bowling came from Nick Tidey who picked up 3-16 in 7 overs, and the veteran paceman Richard Minion, who claimed 3-4.

Minion was again to the fore when Washington batted, scoring 24; skipper Walker kept him company with an undeaten 23, as Washingotn overhauled their hosts wit four wickets to spare.

It was a promising – if somewhat chilly – opening to the 2002 season.
