Sunday 9th July 2000 vs West Green C.C.

West Green C.C. 88 all out
Washington C.C. did not bat

A fine bowling performance from Justin Gurney put Washington in poll position on Sunday against West Green, only for the weather to rob his side of the chance to complete their victory

The young Australian leg-spinner grabbed six wickets for 32 - his best return for the Wash - before prolonged rain washed away Washington's innings without a ball being bowled.
It was all the more disappointing as Wash had turned in a top class fielding performance.

Richard Minion chalked up 2 for 26 in a marathon 14-over spell, and took three excellent catches, while James Wood, Washington's flying Scotsman, bagged 2 for 19 for eleven overs. Pete Demetri also held a brace of catches at slip.

Only West Green opener Tom Stephens, with a gusty 38, came to terms with the treacherous conditions; otherwise, it all went the home team's way.

Skipper Dave Walker too a balanced view of the afternoon's half-completed business: 'Obviously it's frustrating not to be able to finish off the job when the bowlers have done so well', he said, 'but , having said that, I bet West Green would have fancied a bowl on that track: there was a lot of cricket left in the game when the heavens opened'.
