Saturday 3rd June 2000 vs Hendon St Mary's C.C.

Hendon St Mary's C.C. 80 all out
Washington C.C. 81 for 5

Washington cruised to an easy victory in Saturday's bad tempered encounter with Hendon St Mary. Having skittled the home team for just 80, Wash knocked off the runs for the loss of only five wickets.

Star of the show was young Nick Tidey. He bowled impressively to bag 3-15 and then held a spectacular catch at mid-off. And with support bowlers Toby Reisz (3-25) and Dave Walker (2-8) chipping in, it was plain sailing for the Wash.

Aussie opener Grant MacDonald led the Washington reply, thrashing two sixes and five fours in scoring 42; Justin Gurney hit the winning runs, smashing his first ball for six! After the match, skipper Walker launched a scathing attack on Hendon's outlook: 'That was deeply unpleasant: they questioned every decision, used foul and abusive language, and generally didn't play in the spirit of the game. I hate to say it, but that just wasn't cricket'
