Sunday 29th June 2008 vs Railway Taverners C.C.

Taverners Railroaded Again

Washington C.C. 294 for 9 (40 0vers)
Railway Taverners C.C. 186 all out (29 overs)

Washington romped to their 7th victory in a row on Sunday in Crouch End. Playing local team, the Railway Taverners, they dominated the bowling, scoring at over 7 an over, and then bowled the opposition out comfortably in less than 30 overs.

It was a great day for three batsmen who scored 50s – Rob Tidey (62), Peter Kloss (67) and Andy Murrain, Max’s dad (51). Andy’s was certainly the most pleasing of the three. This was only his second game for the club. He made up for his lack of orthodox technique with a deadly eye for the ball, utilizing his favourite cross-bat pull through mid-on/ mid-wicket countless times. The watching Washington players cheered every one and Max was as proud as punch.

Vegetable curry and rice for tea!

When Washington bowled there was a good contest between bat and ball as Tobe Mariner (1-44) and Dave Monger (2-44) sought to oust the better Railway batsmen. At 86 for 1 after 14 overs the batsmen had made a solid start. However both bowlers took wickets in their final over, paving the way for the change bowlers. 2008 newcomers Alex Murray (3-24) and Damien Bastick (2-37) bowled well as the Taverners tried in vain to keep up with an ever increasing run rate. Elliott Bromley took an excellent catch late on.

The innings was wrapped up after only 29 overs and the players retired to enjoy the several jugs of beer which were required to be bought.
